To paraphrase Aldo Leopold, I love all wildlife, but I’m in love with jaguars! I find the presence of such a wonderful cat in the US a blessing to be cherished. That being said, I like to think of myself as a realist (don’t we all?) when it comes to this issue. Without more field data on SW jags I don’t think they will be saved but I also value the power of legal protection. I hope that the jaguar will be added to the list of mammals breeding and prospering in the New Southwest. Viva El Tigre!
