Hello jaguar junkies, Happy 2010. Here’s a blip (with more to come, no doubt) on today’s critical habitat announcement in The Az Daily Star:
Feds reverse decision, will establish critical habitat for jaguar

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reversed its earlier decision Tuesday and announced it will designate critical habitat for the endangered jaguar.
The service will spend this year deciding which habitat to designate as critical for jaguars and plans to announce the planned area in January 2011, the agency said.
The decision reverses one made in 2006 — to reject requests to designate critical habitat and establish a recovery plan for the jaguar.
The only jaguar known to spend considerable amounts of time in the United States, Macho B, was euthanized March 2, 12 days after being captured by Arizona Game and Fish employees and fitted with a tracking collar. A veterinarian diagnosed the animal with kidney failure.
