“Well, you don’t say…”

I think the point about Yellowstone bison and brucellosis has been made over and over,  but now there’s data to back it up. However, it doesn’t change the pesky fact that there is a multi-million dollar industry devoted to hunting elk and very few supporters of bison. Not that I’m advocating a hunting industry focusing on Yellowstone’s buffalo- I think some species are owed the right to be left the hell alone and bison qualify in my book. I just find this heartening and disheartening at the same time (here’s the link to the Billings paper)- he who pays the piper calls the tune and bison are very, very poor. So speak up for our National Mammal and let them be treated like the rest of the wildlife in Yellowstone, not some diseased, pseudo-bovine in need of heavy-handed “management.”

I think the Buffalo Field Campaign would be fully justified in gloatingly proclaiming:
